We've got grass!
Woo hoo! Last weekend.. well let me backup. Ever since we have lived here (so since Aug, 2008) we have had either an area with dirt, or an area with weeds for a backyard. Since we kind of have 2 backyards (one is more of a courtyard and the other one I am referring to is on the other side of the garage, so you have to go up some steps to get to it. Confused? I forgot to mention that you can also get onto the roof of our garage from our backyard because of how it's laid out. I think before we bought the house, I thought it was "character" and now I think it's just annoying. So since I did not have to look at this pile of dirt or weeds (depending on the season), everyday (the garage and some stairs are in the way, remember?) it was kind of out of sight, out of mind. Except now we have Morgan bear. And I think she needs an area to run around, so after much consideration, we decided the cheapest thing to do initally would be to try and plant grass seed. If it did not take, then we would look into sod or another alternative. So back to last weekend, we (John) finally got the grass seed planted and it has started sprouting!
In other news, I randomly decided to change out all the cabinet hardware in our kitchen. I think the existing knobs were too small for the tall cabinets so the scale always bothered me. I replaced them with these. The knobs alone are a bit too modern for me, but I really like the size and I think they look better than before (which I did not think to photograph until it was too late). Anyway, they are black with an oil rubbed bronze finish on the ends, you can see in the second picture. Very simple. I like simple.

2 things
John decided to take up woodworking as a hobby about a year ago. Since then, he has made a few projects including a picnic table and a work bench, but he recently made something for me! A butcher block! I have been wanting a Boos block for awhile (right now I use the plastic boards which are bad for knives), but John said he wanted to make one. So, we went to the wood shop a few weeks ago and I picked out the wood, and he made it. I think this turned out great and I am ready to start chopping!
For John's birthday, he pooled all his GC's and money, and got this smoker. Check out the size of this thing! I put the bag of charcoal in the photo to give it some scale, but this is one intense smoker. He smoked 2 whole chickens on Saturday which were good, but I am really looking forward to the smoked salmon he is going to make next weekend. yum!

Atlanta wedding weekend
I have been enjoying the cooler weather in Charlotte lately, it has been in the 70’s and I love that! Fall is finally on the way. Last weekend, we headed to Atlanta for Blair and Laura’s wedding. We got into town around 1, I did some last minute shopping and then headed to the ceremony. It was a beautiful ceremony and reception site, the Atlanta National Golf Club. It started raining right before the ceremony (supposed to be outdoors) but cleared up after a few minutes so they were still able to have it outside. Enjoy the pictures!
